MG achieved a new sales record in September 2021. The brand sold 8,369 vehicles in Europe (5,449 units in the UK and 2,920 units in mainland Europe). That’s an increase of 77% compared to the same period last year, when MG sold a total of 4,723 units. It’s the first time MG sold over 8,000 units in one month.
Matt Lei, CEO MG Motor Europe, is very proud of the sales figures that were achieved in Europe with just two models: the 100% electric MG ZS EV and the MG EHS Plug-in Hybrid. “In the first nine months of 2021, we’ve sold 14,258 units in mainland Europe and 22,932 units in the UK. That’s a total of 37,190 units. Compared to the same period in 2020, we realized a 214% gain in mainland Europe and an increase of almost 100% in total. That’s a great result for the car brand that started its sales operations in mainland Europe just two years ago. I’m happy that European customers appreciate our products and I’m pleased with our sales record in September too.”
MG made an impact with its European sales in the full year of 2020 with 7,155 units. As the 100% electric MG ZS EV passed its first full year of sales – in The Netherlands (since October 2019), Norway (since February 2020), France, Iceland and Denmark (since Jun 2020) – the brand not only realized great sales results, but also reached top 10 positions. For example, in Norway, the MG ZS EV was the number 8 best-selling car overall and the 7th best-selling electric car, with a 4.85% market share in the BEV market (Battery Electric Vehicle). In Belgium, the MG ZS EV was named ‘Family Car of the Year’.
In 2021, MG did things even better. The brand was introduced in Austria, Germany, Spain, Portugal and Italy. In Sweden, MG reached the top 3 in the field of BEV sales immediately (since the start in august), with over 900 units sold in September. Another great accomplishment is the fact that MG is now on sale in 16 European markets, with Finland and Switzerland soon to follow. Since October 2019, MG opened more than 300 MG Brand Stores (sales and service partners) in Europe and expects to have 400 MG Brand Stores up and running by the end of the year.
The MG family will grow furthermore. The brand announced new models, like the MG Marvel R Electric which will arrive at the MG Brand Stores in Europe within a few weeks. MG then eagerly awaits the new MG5 Electric in the first quarter of 2022, the world’s first all-electric station wagon.
Matt Lei: “MG will rapidly expand its electric model range. In 2022, we can expect even more EVs. In the end, we think five or six new models will suit our needs. Our goal is to disrupt the EV market in Europe with stunning designed vehicles that have an outstanding quality and finish, and plenty of advanced technology for a fair price.”
