New model, new platform, new class: MG Motor is set to hit the ground running in the segment for compact, full-electric hatchbacks with the all-new MG4 EV. It’s the first MG model based on the intelligent new MSP (Modular Scalable Platform) developed by MG's parent company SAIC Motor.

Designed for a wide range of vehicles, the MSP can be used flexibly in models across different vehicle segments, from hatchbacks to SUVs and sports cars – suitable for wheelbases ranging from 2,650 to 3,100 mm. SAIC Motor has also revealed its new integrated battery structure has a height of just 110mm, enhancing road holding and driver engagement even further.

The new MSP has been designed to maximise battery efficiency, with concerted efforts to further reduce weight and allow scalable range and performance for a wide variety of customer requirements, offering enhanced interior space and luggage capacity. Initially available in 51 kWh and 64 kWh battery capacities the MG4 EV will be capable of up to 450KM in the WLTP cycle.

TheMG4 EV offers a comfortable, spacious cabin with enough space for a family of five, while maintaining sleek and sporty proportions. In addition, its balanced50:50 weight distribution allows better handling, more direct steering movements and fast cornering. In combination with rear-wheel drive, the new MG4EV ensures optimum driving pleasure.

Mircea Rus, Product Manager at MG Motor Ireland, said: “The MG4 EV is a very welcome addition to the MG range which will help us attract more Irish customers by introducing a compact car with an outstanding design, market-leading technology and at excellent value for money for a practical and stylish fully electric vehicle”.

Further details on the new MG4 EV will be released later this year, including announcements on Irish pricing, full specifications and official first Irish viewings.

European premiere for the new MSP

The MG4 Electric is currently undergoing a final, 120,000-kilometre endurance test under various conditions in Europe. It’s the first MG model for Europe to be based on the MSP (Modular Scalable Platform) for battery-powered vehicles, which has been developed by parent company SAIC Motor. The intelligent, modular architecture offers many benefits in terms of flexibility, use of space, safety, driving experience, weight saving, and advanced technologies. Its scalable design is suitable for wheelbases ranging from 2.650 to 3.100 mm, which allows designing various chassis styles for different segments on the same platform, varying from hatchbacks to SUVs and sports cars. The Modular Scalable Platform therefore plays an important role in MG’s growth strategy for Europe.
